In 2016, in the very heart of Moscow, on Malaya Dmitrovka, opened a gastronomic bistro Tehnikum, located on the ground floor of a 19th-century mansion. In Soviet times the building hosted a stationery shop selling drafting equipment, where many muscovites would buy their office and school supplies.
The Soviet spirit, once familiar to the house, has been restored with a new edge. The main spatial focus of the bistro is a vast plywood panel by artist Dmitry Aske. It is a wall-to-wall painting opposite the entrance, which recalls Soviet mosaic murals customary for places where people were eating out.
The sanitary compartment is on the basement floor, which can be accessed by means of a complex metal and Venetian mosaic staircase leading downstairs. The marble tile floors are installed in an intricate geometric pattern.
